Wizzard’s New Podcasts Web App Looks Great

 wizzard2

Keeping up with podcasts on the iPhone just got a whole bunch easier …

Wizzard Media, a major podcasting host, has just released the Wizzard Media Receiver - which lets you browse, listen to and watch podcasts on the iPhone.

It also does a whole lot more. The Wizzard Media Receiver already has a lot of nice features and really looks as if it should allow you to forget about cables and syncing with your PC for favorite podcasts.  I say that because it lets you do just about everything you should need in order to listen to podcasts, discover new ones, and manage subscriptions to your favorites.  Here’s some of the cool things you’ll find when using it:

  • There’s a good directory of podcasts on all sorts of subject matter - that’s easy to browse through and subscribe to a podcast with one tap.
  • You can also add an RSS feed for an individual show that’s not listed in the directory.  Best of all though, you can import an .opml file with all your podcast subscriptions from iTunes on your desktop. Once you do this, all your subscriptions will instantly show up on the iPhone.
  • An Inbox - that shows you recently added episodes of all the podcasts you’re subscribed to - so you always have a quick ‘What’s New’ view when you look at it.
  • Good navigation - including one tap actions for most common tasks you might need - for instance, on the screen for an individual episode of a show, you can choose to listen to it (of course) or to add it to your Favorites list, see other episodes of that show, flag the episode, or add comments.

There are a few little quirks with the Wizzard Media Receiver right now - a few places where the navigation doesn’t work exactly as you’d expect and that sort of thing.  Nothing major though.  Certainly nothing that matches the nuisance value of having to sync with the PC, and usually wait on a huge series of downloads of podcast episodes, because I haven’t opened iTunes since the last sync - or more often, cancel the downloads because I just can’t be bothered waiting.

So far, this app is a real pleasure to work with and has me excited about listening to podcasts on the iPhone again.

You can give the Wizzard Media Receiver a go at: http://iphone.wizzard.tv - and there’s also a nice video demo of it at:
