At some point I guess we’ll all get bored and immune to amazing numbers and stats relating to the iPhone and its astounding success rate. Not yet though. Not when you see numbers like the last quarter’s North America market share for smartphones, and see that Apple is already ahead of Windows Mobile, and way ahead of Palm and Symbian combined!

Canalys has produced a report showing the iPhone has grown massively in North America. The study looked specifically at smartphone market share statistics in Q3, and the iPhone, in a surprisingly short time span, has managed to grab second position. A 27% market share is nothing to scoff at; what Apple has done in a few months, others have failed to do in years.

Those numbers are even more amazing when you remember this is iPhone’s first quarter of even being in the race, and that it is still not on sale in Canada or Mexico.  The figures should be embarassing for Microsoft and the others already lapped by the iPhone, and probably downright scary for Blackberry as well.  How long will they stay ahead once the iPhone makes it to Canada and 3G models emerge?
