Yahoo has made a change in the last day or so, that offers up a ‘mobile’ version of their site when you browse to it from the iPhone. And it’s pretty rank. Well, it’s probably OK if you’re on a mobile with a crappy browser and just want to get to some info quickly - but on the iPhone it’s a big disappointment.
Just about the only good thing about this version of Yahoo is that its pages load very fast. But they are very drab, almost all text on a lot of pages, and just not very nicely designed - at least compared to so many other iPhone optimized sites out there. This seems even more surprising given how many news sites have made efforts and put out iPhone specific sites - Yahoo’s news section is a very poor offering compared to many of those.
Oh, and even some of the basics are done badly in this version. If you’re on an individual story page, like the one shown in the screencap above right, check out the only link to get back to Yahoo home (without multiple taps of the back button) - it’s the *tiny* little link the arrow is pointing at. That’s just dumb.
I think this our first ‘iPhone Sites That Suck’ post. So feel free to let us know about others that you’d like to nominate for this category

Um … why not just hit the “back button” at the bottom of the screen?
I know … I’m a smartass.

Mostly because in an article like that NBA report, you’re about 3 Back button taps away from home - just seems very dopey to not have a quick link back to their main page. Pretty common / sensible thing to do …

Ah … didn’t realize that. Ok. That’s a PITA if you’re 3 levels deep from home and there’s no easy way. Looks like they unleashed the guys who did the Windows Mobile version and forget there was no stylus.
