Featured Web App: Backgammon

Webapp games have come a long way in the past few months. Many are now fast, fun and have excellent graphics. For example– Mynumo’s new Backgammon app.

Mynumo’s Backgammon can be played by one or two players (the two player version is played by two people on a single iPhone or iPod Touch)webBackgammon1. The graphics are terrific and the game play fast. The game is particularly great for players new to Backgammon since, once the game piece that you are planning to move is tapped, it becomes semi-transparent and the game highlights all the possible moves on the board.

The are two potential issues with the game- although they are issues with the iPhone or iPod Touch rather than the game itself. First, the game pieces are small and require a very specific and accurate touch to select them. Second, during one game I tapped the wrong part of the screen and a new page loaded. When I returned to Mynumo’s Backgammon I had to start a new game.

During college I spent a year and a half living and studying in the Middle East. During that time I played more than my share of Backgammon (regionally referred to as shesh besh). It would have been great to have an iPhone and Mynumo’s Backgammon back then!!

I highly recommend giving the game a try. Best of all…. its free.
