So here we are just about time for MacWorld and everyone’s all excited about the 1.1.3 update that’s about to come out. There’s mentions of Cut and Paste, wiggly icons, and all sorts of other stuff.

We all have our own ideas of what we want on the iPhone. But having followed iPhone news since almost the beginning there’s always one topic that seems to dominate them all – Customization. Big word I know. But have you noticed the amount of hits we (and other sites) get when it comes to applications like Customize and SummerBoard? Have you noticed when someone jailbreaks the first thing they want to show you is the cool theme they put on it? So with big hit numbers, lots of discussions, and all sorts of themes all over the place – I have a question.

WHY is it that no "iPhone wishlist" type of posts in the 2007 wrap-ups asked for customization of the iPhone interface? Why didn’t anyone ask to be allowed to change the wallpaper? Why didn’t anyone ask to be able to change the icons?

Did everyone forget that SummerBoard doesn’t come with the iPhone? Did everyone forget that the black background, horrible icons, and lame dock are all forced upon you with no way to change it? Does everyone like that layout so much that it doesn’t matter if they want to change it?

Personally – You can put all kinds of cool features in 1.1.3 but until someone gets SummerBoard running … you can keep it. I don’t want to Back in Black.

Very, very good point! I guess lots of us have got this as a sort of ‘given’ in the back of our minds, but it shouldn’t be since there are zero indications so far of Apple adding any of this sort of ability to Springboard (doesn’t mean it won’t happen, just no reports or rumors of it yet) …

Y’know I felt the same way about Windows Mobile when I first got my device, but so far I have no major desire to change the interface on the iPhone. Not even the wallpaper. It’s just ‘meh’ so far — but I might start today just to give it a shot.

Here we go into version 2.0 and its still not being discussed. Somehow thought when new firmwares come out the first thing I see asked in all the forums is if anyone has tested summerboard…

I really hope someone comes out with an app – or summerboard gets retail’d when 2.0 comes around.

I agree Brandon – really hope to see Summerboard ‘on the other side’ and hopefully Theme Builder as well …
