Send Postcards of Your iPhone Pics

iPhone wish you were here postcards

WYWH Postcards is a new web app that lets you generate a postcard from any of the pictures on your iPhone and send it off via a very quick and easy process.

To utilize the service you just:

  • Send a text to their number (69626) just saying WYWH
  • You get a text back telling you to email a photo to your-phone-number@wywh.mobi
  • Mail them your pic - then you get a text back with a link to follow - where you fill in a caption for your photo, a personal message and signature, and the address to send it to
  • Reply to a couple confirmation texts, and you’re done

That actually sounds harder than it is - it was a snap to do a trial run on this and send one to my wife (she can never get enough pictures of our daughter).

It costs $1.99 to send a WYWH postcard (and apparently can be charged to your phone bill), and at first I didn’t like the sound of that an awful lot.  My first thought was that I could easily just email photos to people whenever I want, and print out pics at home and mail them as well.  But … if you’re on a trip and you’ve got relatives and friends who maybe aren’t big email users, or even just someone who would really appreciate a real postcard, I think this is quite a cool idea.

If I compare spending $1.99 and a few quick steps on the iPhone to browsing around for cheesy pre-made postcards at a vacation spot and buying those, I think I’m liking the WYWH idea quite a bit.

Oh, and I’m not sure how long this stays in effect - but when I went to send my test card and got to the payment stage, it told me there is no charge during the pre-release stage.  I’m assuming the card is still on its way though.
