Navizon Updated - Adds Live Location Tracking

Navizon screencap

Navizon - the first GPS-like native location tracking app for the iPhone - has just been updated and has added some very slick new features.  First and foremost, it now has a ‘Moving Mode’ feature that updates your position every 10 seconds.

With the Moving Mode feature turned on, you’re one step closer to GPS than you’re currently able to be with the built-in Google Maps application.

The second big new feature in Navizon is the addition of a Slider bar (or navigation panel), that can overlay the maps, and that mimics the appearance of the existing Google Maps bar.  This provides you with access to settings, one tap to see your buddies’ location, and a button to toggle the Moving Mode On and Off. This slider bar can also be moved around to position it where you want on the Maps page.

Navizon also now offers an option to run in the background - which can be used in conjunction with the ‘Buddy Finder’ to show your friends / relatives locations in real time.

Another interesting new feature is Navizon Alerts.  This is quite navizonalertsa slick new feature.  You can login to Navizon from a desktop browser and choose ‘Create Alerts’, then define an area within a circle on the map, and set it to send you an email when a specified person enters the defined are a.  I don’t know that this will immediately have a huge number of uses, as I’m not sure how many folks would choose to leave Navizon running in the background real often - but in certain situations this could be a huge help.

Overall, the new update looks quite impressive so far.  You can find it on Installer today, although I found that I needed to add a new source for Navizon in order for the updated version (2.0.0) to show up under the Network category.

You can also check out a YouTube demo of it at the Navizon blog site:
