Here’s some more *very* positive sounding omens on the future
of software development and apps for the iPhone.
Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, Timothy Cook, was at a Technology Investment Symposium today, and was asked some pointed questions about the SDK, 3rd party apps, and iPhone unlockers. His answers all sound very promising …
Cook referred to the iPhone as "a platform not a product" - cool - as in, a mobile computing platform.
He also said the SDK would "broaden the platform more, to the point where the only limit will be people’s imagination.”
Here’s maybe the most promising quote of all, in terms of seeing some sanctioned apps immediately upon release of the SDK - when asked when we’ll see the first iPhone third-party apps, he said:
“We’re going to go into some more details at the event next week. I don’t want to take away the element of surprise.”
That sounds to me like there’s a very good chance Apple will be announcing some new apps at the press event on March 6th - and that would be excellent.
It’s been a long wait for the SDK - but seeing some apps available right away, and hearing some more bullish comments on how far Apple and software developers can take the platform, should fill lots of us with enthusiasm again …

i cant wait… I seriously think we will be surprised at what the SDK will bring w/in the first week, and its going to be stuff that the devs never even thought of, and it will make it seem like we have a whole new iphone.
Im also scared cuz im afraid its gonna cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, lots and lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

nate94gt - I hope you’re right and I also feel optimistic that we will start to see some great stuff very quickly,
As for that scary part, Yikes! - I agree with that too

Hmmm…are MMS and C/P within the limits of the people at Apple’s imaginations?

I think I’d have to go with No on that one. In fact, I reckon there may be some little dude whose job at Apple HQ is to filter out all usage of the words ‘copy’, ‘paste’ and ‘MMS’ from all electronic and paper communications there, by order of The Steve. That’s one tough job
