We already knew that the latest iPhone firmware - Version 1.1.4 - h
ad changed very, very little from 1.1.3, and we’ve known for a few days that jailbreaking was still possible on this latest firmware.
In the last day or so, two of the very popular and easy jailbreak methods have been updated to work with the 1.1.4 firmware - iNdependence (Mac only) and ZiPhone, for both Mac and PC. Zibri’s previous versions of ZiPhone have already been used by many people with varying degrees of success, but I preferred holding off until he had a new release up, which happened today.
I have been so impressed with Zibri’s ZiPhone method that I’ll be giving that one a go again this evening or during the weekend - as I want to get my iPhone up to latest firmware prior to the SDK event next week, and I still want my ‘unoffocial’ apps.
For more info on the iNdependence utility, see this post. To get the latest ZiPhone tool, go HERE …

ZiPhone worked really well. What didn’t work so well is that yet again Installer thought all of the applications I installed in 1.1.3 were still installed (1.1.4 doesn’t wipe the the filesystem). So for example I couldn’t uninstall Summerboard. SSH was “installed” but wasn’t running, Wallpaper was installed but wasn’t usable. You get the idea.
So I put my iPhone into recovery mode and restored back to factory and am running the 1.1.4 update again. Hopefully this time with a clean start.

Yeah, I was planning to restore first, try to get it as ‘clean’ as possible before running new ZiPhone. Had also read somewhere (at Ste’s blog I think) that it is best to install new version of OpenSSH prior to going to 1.1.4, so will do that also (though with full restore there’s no reason that should help) …
