BBC’s iPlayer for iPhone Now Live

Great news if you’re in the UK and a fan of BBC TV programming.  The BBC’s BBC iPlayer for iPhoneiPlayer service for the iPhone and iPod Touch has gone live - which gives on-demand streaming access to all of the Beeb’s most popular programs.

The UK media outlet explains that the Apple-friendly version works by streaming a 516Kbps H.264 video feed over the website; as it’s limited to just a narrow set of devices, no Flash plugins or software development kit support is necessary.

You do need a WiFi connection to enjoy this of course - Edge will not cope.  And the BBC’s site identifies if you’re outside the UK - and in that case you’re out of luck for any of the TV / video content.

The BBC has said they’re working on an international version, but there’s no timeframe for when that will launch as yet.  I’m hoping it will be sometime soon, as I’d love to be able to start catching episodes of Top Gear, and getting up to speed on the latest, greatest British comedy shows …

I tried this out the other day.. Unfortunately it is UK only which crushed my hopes of catching top gear too!

In this global world of ours I really
don’t understand why they would limit such things to a specific region. Here’s to hoping they get that international site up and going sooner
    than later!

I agree - really hope they can get this sorted out very quickly …
