CubeWorld for iPhone - Offers 360 Degree Panoramic Image Views

CubeWorld iPhone app

CubeWorld is another one of those iPhone native applications that really shows off the iPhone’s multitouch and image-handling abilities very nicely. It’s an app developed by Marco Giorgini (the creator of those excellent 3D games for iPhone we posted on a few weeks back) that shows spherical panoramas.

Spherical panoramas are images that give you the feeling of being there, because you can move around a 360 degree view. So you can pan around and make it feel as if you are standing right in the middle of the scene, and look up at the sky or down at the ground, as well as panning your vision round to the right or left.

CubeWorld is very responsive - once you start panning right or left, for example, you can stop moving your finger and let it continue to pan in the direction you started going. You can use two fingers to zoom in and out as always, and a three finger tap will exit from viewing the current image. Through the Options screen, you can select portrait or lanscape mode, activate the accelerometer for left / right rotating, set your zooming and rotating speed, and even enable auto-panning.

The program comes with a few panoramic images to work with, but you can also add more or even create your own if you’re adventurous. Full instructions for both of these are available at Marco’s site HERE.

CubeWorld is a lot of fun to play around with, and I imagine lots of you creative types out there will have a blast creating your own panoramic images. See HERE for plans for a submission method for these.

To give CubeWorld a try, you’ll need to add Marco Giorgini’s source, which is:
