iPhone 2.0 Will Add Embedded YouTube Support

iPhone OS 2.0 embedded YouTube support

It looks like the latest release of the iPhone 2.0 firmware has added the ability to recognize YouTube content embedded in web pages - meaning you can click on the video content and have it play via the YouTube application.

According to iPhone Atlas this will work very similarly to the iTransmogrify bookmarklet that many of us have been using:

The feature works in a fashion similar to that of the bookmarklet iTransmogrify. Only YouTube content that has been encoded in the H.264 format, required for playback on the iPhone, is viewable via this method.

It’s good to see the more items on the ‘If hackers can do it, then Apple can too’ list get checked off as the 2.0 beta builds keep rolling out. We saw a contacts search feature earlier this week as well, which is another one that has been available via a jalibreak app for many months now.   Let’s hope this trend continues …
