Video Interview with SEGA Covers Super Monkey Ball & iPhone Gaming Potential

SEGA Super Monkey Ball on iPhone Demo

Remember the cool Super Monkey Ball demo at the Apple SDK Launch event?  I think we all got a great taste of how cool gaming on the iPhone is going to become during a few of those demos.  Now GameCyte has had a chance to do a video interview with Ethan Einhorn, a SEGA associate producer and the same gent who did the SDK event demo.

The interview is fairly short, but covers some good ground on several iPhone-related topics:

The potential of the gaming market for iPhone and iPod Touch - Einhorn talks about what a big advantage it is that the iPhone and iPod Touch are ‘uniform’, that there are no software compatibility issues, or any need to worry about differences on hardware buttons, as with other mobile phones - and says:

Combine that with a level of power that is definitely competitive with a dedicated handheld gaming machines and you have, potentially, a revolution on your hands in handheld gaming …

Einhorn also talks about how the iPhone will help bring along a lot of people who will be new to gaming, once they see how easy it is to play on this device - and then describes the appeal for the serious gamer as well:

For hardcore gamers it’s terrific to be in a position where finally you can just carry one device …

There’s also lots of good words on how easy it was for his developers to get that Super Monkey Ball development going with the SDK in the famous ‘two weeks’ period that was trumpeted at the SDK launch.

One thing that really struck me about this interview - it echoes a lot of the sentiment that Dan expressed in a post just after the SDK launch - telling us all that Apple was about to release the best portable gaming device ever.

The video inteview is well worth a look - check it out HERE, and then come back and tell Dan how clever he is :)
