ruBooks = New iPhone Ebooks Reader With Some Nice New Features

ruBooks iPhone ebook reader app

ruBooks is a new (pre-release version) ebooks reader and document viewing program for the iPhone, based on the popular Books application, that adds several very nice enhancements to that app.

The two improvements that will likely get the most immediate love are an auto-scroll capability and the ability to use the volume buttons to scroll up and down.  Both of these just feel like things that nearly everyone will like - although both can be toggled on and off.  I especially like the auto-scroll and the ability to adjust its speed to get it just right for your lazy reading comfort.

Although it is is labeled a pre-release version, I’ve been using ruBooks for several days now and finding it completely stable.  It is able to work with a good variety of ebook and general text document formats, and already has an impressive list of features, including:

* FB2 support, including support to zip-archived files;
* Localization support, with English, Russian and draft German, Chinese and Japanese languages included;
* Page scrolling with volume control buttons;
* Auto-scroll with adjustable scrolling speed;
* Increased book loading speed;
* Table of contents for single-file books;
* Book cover inside the text;
* Opening files anywhere on the file system under /var - including both home dirs of users "root" and "mobile". Also /var/root/Downloads;
* Color management for fore- and background in both day- and night-modes;
* PDF, XLS and DOC viewer based on Safari engine;
* Justified alignment and other small but very handy enhancements.

ruBooks is developed by MMi forum member Colel and is available in Installer now.  You’ll need to add the following source in order to see it:
