Feeds - the native iPhone Google Reader application - was updated again last night, to Version 0.4.1.
This latest version adds a feature which was a *big* wish list item for me - the ability to mark items as starred (or to remove the star as well). I use this a ton when going through feeds, marking with a star all items I want to return to or take some action on later - it’s great seeing this in Feeds. The next items along these lines that would be very nice to see are the ability to share and email items.
Sync speed also seems considerably quicker to me now. The initial sync after the update was quite lengthy, but subsequent ‘normal’ syncs were around 1-2 minutes - which seems well within the acceptable to good range to me.
Feeds latest version is out now on Installer, via the ModMyiFone source, which is part of Community Sources so you should just need to refresh sources as normal to see it.

I’ve posted before about Poolga.com, a great site for finding quite artistic and unique looking iPhone wallpapers. This week, a post at the TouchTip site caught my eye - as it highlighted another source of artsy and original looking wallpapers - the Pixelgirl site.
Pixelgirl already has three pages worth of walls suitably sized for the iPhone - most of which have a lighthearted and ‘cartoony’ sort of feel, or maybe a poster-style look to them - at least that’s the best clumsy, quick description I can come up with
The graphic at the top of this post, by the way, is ‘Aforestation’, by Naina Redhu.
Check out the Pixelgirl site HERE, and let us know if you see anything you like …
… word on the street is that the most recent version of the iPhone 2.0 beta has added a "Location Services" feature that encompasses what appears to be GPS-based Google Mapping, along with geotagging for the phone’s camera app.
Engadget Mobile is reporting that it looks like the upcoming (hurry up!) iPhone 2.0 software contains another slick little feature we’d not seen mentioned before today - geotagging.
Any developers out there care to confrim if they’ve noticed this in the latest beta build? This would be another good addition …
I like quiz games. Trivia quizzes, and most any flavor of knowledge testing type games. So I’m happy to see ‘The Impossible Quiz’ game come to the iPhone.
I vaguely remember hearing about this game before, but had never tried it out. Here is the Wikipedia description of it:
The Impossible Quiz is not in fact impossible; rather, it is incredibly difficult. It is a game from Slap-me-do that may be found on any major internet game site, such as Newgrounds or Addictinggames. The Quiz contains 100 questions that involve puns, plays on words, simple logic, and process of elimination to figure out. Once the player’s three lives run out, he must return to the very beginning of the game and start over. The Impossible Quiz is known to be quite addicting, and many have spent countless hours or even days attempting to complete the game.

It’s always good to see (legitimate looking) contests where there’s a free iPhone to be won - especially if they’re based round doing something fun and creative in order to win the prize.
This week, the folks at Dream Catcher, makers of the iPhone Video Recorder native video recording application for the iPhone, have launched just such a contest. One where you put your iPhone video creation skills to use in order to try to win yourself a free iPhone, or one of the other prizes on offer for those who finish in the Top 10.
I’ve mentioned very recently that I like the iPhone Video Recorder app enough to have puchased it - and I imagine there should be plenty of aspiring ‘Spielberg on the iPhone’ types out there who should make this contest very interesting - I bet we see some really cool things produced.
Read on for some of the contest details and links to the full contest page …
WinPwn - the Windows version of the very popular pwnage jailbreak method - is now out of beta, and Release Candidate 1 is available for download at the winpwn site.
The new 1.0 RC1 version is said to be much more stable and contain many bug fixes - as well as some notable new features:
Completely rewritten installer app that adds support for nearly every package (Including Cydia)
You are now able to remove items from installer
Change logos without restoring.
That ability to change logos without having to re-do the pwnage process is one that lots of folks have been hankering after - and one I’d definitely like to see come to the Mac version, Pwnage Tool.
Amongst the main reasons the pwnage - and WinPwn - jailbreak method has proved so popular are that it offers a solid level of customization on what is installed to the iPhone via a very easy to use GUI, and it also allows you to restore via iTunes, adding a major comfort level to that element of the process.
There is mounting speculation that the upcoming 3G iPhone will be an evolutionary step forward rather than a huge leap.
According to a new Piper Jaffray research note the 3G iPhone will not be a reinvention of the product. That will have to wait until early 2009.
Rather, the 3G iPhone will be similar in almost all regards with the exception of a thicker (and plastic?) case, necessary to house the 3G chipset and/or a thicker battery to mitigate the battery drain of the high speed chip.
All that will change come January when, as Piper senior analyst Gene Munster put it
Son of iPhone is about to make its appearance on June 9. We expect that you will give this important news the column inches it deserves, just as you did last year.
Man do I love that opening salutation! Fake Steve Jobs at his best that is. In the unmistakable FSJ style, he has not only confirmed the June 9th announcement, but he’s provided the rundown on what to expect - and what is expected of journalists in these next few coming days. Some of the highlights:

I’m very happy and very proud to let you all know that as of today we have our first ‘real’ sponsor advertiser for Just Another iPhone Blog - and even happier to say that it is one of my very favorite places on the web! That would be EIC - or everythingiCafe- home to my favorite iPhone forums, my favorite forum site on any topic for that matter, and a site I spend time on and have some great conversations on every day.
EIC also has an excellent iPhone Accessories Store, as shown in the banner ad top of the page here, with the striking purple background. I really hope some of you will click that pretty banner ad and check out the EIC Accessories Store. If you do, you’ll find a strong selection of iPhone and iPod Touch cases, headsets, car kits, screen protectors, and lots more. And … by doing so you’ll be supporting this site and EIC as well, which will be hugely appreciated!
I highly recommend that you sign up for the EIC forums if you’re not a member there already. There’s a wealth of good iPhone information over there, and some very friendly and knowledgeable people - so you’ll find answers to lots of iPhone questions and also find plenty of off-topic stuff to have fun with My username is patrickj - look forward to seeing you over there …
I’d also like to take this chance to say thank you, thank you to all of you who visit this site. You’re the reason we’re doing this, and it’s great to see that enough of you seem to like the place enough that a really cool site wants to be a sponsor here.
I have coded fairly extensively with Symbian, Windows Mobile, and Blackberry. iPhone just blows them away, making me wonder who decided that mobile development had to be difficult. — Tom Yager, InfoWorld
