Apollo IM Will Cross Over to The App Store

ApolloIM

Apollo IM - one of the first real killer jailbreak apps on the iPhone and still a very popular IM (instant messaging) client for the iPhone - will be coming to the iPhone App Store.

Spotted this news via TUAW’s iPhone app news roundup for today.  There is not any great amount of detail yet as to whether the app will carry the same name, when it is due to be ready for launch, or pricing - but the news there is, is good:

This project is no longer the main project of the original developers, we are changing our focus to new software for the official SDK release. This does not mean we are stopping working, this just means that it isn’t our primary focus.

Sounds like good stuff all around.  New version coming for the App Store, and still some work being done on the original version.  See HERE for the official Google code page for the project.

Yeah - iChat would be pretty sweet. I also like Fring a whole lot.

How will it work in the background, when the official SDK doesn’t allow this?

Sebhelyesfarku - I’m guessing it won’t - but will rely on the Apple Notifications Server thingie for getting little background status updates …

Ok, but if the app quits in the background then you are not online anymore, so how will your buddies send you a message?
