uSirius is a new jailbreak application that brings Sirius radio streaming to the iPhone - and does it quite well.
I’m not a Sirius subscriber and have only got a taste of it occasionally when in friends’ cars and similar, but this app looks impressive if you are a Sirius user. I signed up for the Sirius 3-day free trial in order to give this a quick test run, and found the program pretty impressive.
Setup was easy and quick - just input your Sirius subscriber username and password and then let it load channels and channel logos - loading channels took around 1 minute for me, and logos maybe 2-3 minutes, and then it was all ready to go.
Acquiring each channel’s stream as I tried out a few different one
s, and initial buffering, was pretty quick every time - and was solid over a WiFi connection once each channel was loaded. I haven’t had a chance to try it out over EDGE as yet. I like that it continues to play when the iPhone goes into sleep mode, although it would be even better to also have an option to let it continue when you switch to another app, as the iPod app can.
As a Sirius rookie, I was also impressed to see the 163 channels available, and the great variety of genres and material to choose from. Signing up for Sirius is not on my agenda just now, but if you’re already a Sirius subscriber, this seems a very worthwhile app for the iPhone.
uSirius is available now on Installer, via the iSpazio.net source - which is part of Community Sources, so you should not need to add any sources to see it …
