One of the very first new apps I spotted when giving the iPhone App Store a once-over this morning is one of our biggest favorites - Evernote - and it’s free!
There had been no talk of a native iPhone app from Evernote leading up to the store’s launch, but sure enough there is one all ready to go and it’s
looking good.
The interface for it is as easy to look at and use as you’d expect if you’ve been using Evernote on the web, desktop, or iPhone web app version. It asks to make use of our location right away - though I’m not sure just yet how it makes use of this.
Best new feature I’ve spotted in just a very short time using the new native Evernote app - when you hit New Note, it offers four types of note to create, including Audio Notes - so it can serve as your voice notes app now. Very nice addiiton. The four note types are: Text Note, Snapshot Note, Saved Photo Note, Audio Note.
We’ll have a better run-through on Evernote fairly soon, but this is a superb app in all its versions and this native iPhone one was the only missing piece. Well worth getting hold of. Give it a look under the Productivity category in the App Store.

Hey Patrick - does it cache locally - or does it require a web connection to work?

Brandon - seems to work when not connected. I turned off WiFi and EDGE, the created a new audio note. It places that note in the ‘Pending’ tab and shows me a ‘1′ badge on that tab to indicate there is a note pending sync. As soon as I turned WiFi back on and went into the app, it synced that note for me. I’m guessing it cannot do this while the app is not open though …

Does it keep your notes locally though? Like can I be in the store with no access to data and still access all my notes? I like that I can make one … but can I see all the others without a data connection?

Brandon = Looks like no on that one. At least on my quick test just now - with no active connection it generates an error saying it can’t see notes basically and does not show ‘em. Not so hot. Hopefully that is something they will look to add. Oh, or is possibly something they wanted to include and hit an Apple roadblock in terms of access to the file system???
