Favorite Rumor Of The Week: App Store To Open Today (Thursday)

A couple of heavyweight tech / business sites are reporting that it’s likely the iPhone App Store could open by midday Eastern time today, to coincide with the first iPhone 3G models going on sale in New Zealand. 

TechCrunch says iPhone developers have been informed their NDAs (non disclosure agreements) with Apple will be lifted ‘around 9 am PST’ this morning.

Forbes.com simply say that the store may open early "according to three people who have been briefed on the matter." - and offers the same possible opening time (though it’s listed as 12:00 Eastern).

The first thing to like about these rumors - we don’t have to wait long at all to see if they’re true.  More importantly though, this would just be sweet.  It’s only one day earlier than we’re expecting the iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store, but with all this waiting, I’ll take it!  Can’t wait to see all the new apps …

    You can see it now through iTunes 7.7. Just download, install it and search for applications in the itunes store. Plan some browsing time because there are HUNDREDS available!
