The iPhone App I Miss The Most So Far

3GSettingsPage

There are a lot of individual applications - and even whole categories of applications - that have not and probably will not make the changeover from the iPhone jailbreak environment to the new App Store and iPhone 2.0 Land.  As much as I have enjoyed the jailbreak arena - and admired the hard and excellent work of many jailbreak devs - I am not generally missing it hugely in these first couple of days of the App Strore appearing - as the new apps available are impressive and well-priced (or in many, many cases - free).

Like many (especially Brandon) I miss Summerboard and the ability to regularly switch my theme.  I’ve done lists before - like this one - of my favorite jailbreak apps, so I won’t rehash them all now.  I will say that in even just a couple days or so of using the new iPhone 2.0 software, there is one app that I am missing way more than any other.  One that I am finding myself saying / thinking the name of several times a day and cursing the Apple restrictions that prevent it from being around:

BossPrefs

By now BossPrefs is quite a versatile app that offers a number of cool features, but the one that has me longing for it so much is its original and main purpose - the ability to quickly toggle On and Off iPhone services to save battery life.  BossPrefs let you do this for Bluetooth, WiFi, EDGE, SSH etc.

Now with the addition of 3G - and its major battery-suck powers - this sort of app would be even more handy - especially since this is another area that has somehow slipped through the cracks on the iPhone’s interface and ease of use side of things.  I mean at least if you’re going to bar others from providing this sort of app, then give us an option to toggle 3G that doesnt involve going to Settings > General > Network > Enable 3G.  Give us ‘Services’ or similar as a home screen icon instead of the new Contacts one - I think the vast majority of iPhone users would welcome that trade in a hearbeat.

What do you all think?   Is this a feature you miss or would find useful?  What apps are you missing most on the the new 2.0 software?

The one I actually miss most right now is WiFiToggle! I loved that app for single press on/off of Wifi.

Next up is the StatusBar application - I used to have that running and could see if I had email without having to unlock …

    Finally - I miss summerboard.
