We already knew that Apple managed to sell one million iPhone 3G models in their launch weekend, and that there is some debate about how good or bad that may be given the launch on 21 countries this time vs. just the US in 2007.
Apple has also announced some major news on the runaway early success of the App Store:
Apple® today announced that iPhone™ and iPod® touch users have already downloaded more than 10 million applications from its groundbreaking new App Store since its launch late last week. …
“The App Store is a grand slam, with a staggering 10 million applications downloaded in just three days,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Developers have created some extraordinary applications, and the App Store can wirelessly deliver them to every iPhone and iPod touch user instantly.”
Again, I’m not a huge or close follower of market statistics, and I went looking for some general mobile software market sales figures and could not find any great recent comparison figures. Even so, 10 million strikes me as a staggering number in just 3 days!
