Palringo = New Multi-client iPhone IM App in The App Store

palringo

Palringo is a new instant messaging app for the iPhone, and the first one that supports multiple IM services to make the App Store.

As you can see in the screenshot above, it supports most of the leading IM services, including Yahoo Messenger, AIM, Google Talk, and Windows Live Messenger.

One nice feature of Palringo is that it lets you add pictures - newly taken or from your photo albums - to messages.

The program is fairly easy to use, but does not have the slickest of interfaces in my opinion - certainly nothing to compete with my favorite jailbreak IM app, Agile Messenger.  Hopefully this will be polished in future versions.

The one big limitation of the app, of course (due to Apple’s SDK restrictions), is that it has no ability to run in the background - so you have to have the program open in order to know when a new message comes in, or carry on a continuous conversation.

It’s good to see an IM app in the App Store that offers multi-client support.  Hopefully we’ll see some upgrades to this one soon, and some others in this area as well.

Palringo is available in the iPhone App Store now …
