iTunes

18 is the number of iPhone applications the App Store showed me when I entered the search term ‘fart’.  Seriously.  There are already EIGHTEEN fart-related apps in the App Store.  That just seems unbelievable to me.

I know Apple recently loosened the restrictions on what sort of apps can be granted entry into the App Store – in particular, allowing for more NSFW sort of apps to be granted entry.  I’m good with that policy.  I just somehow didn’t expect that quite such a tidal wave of flatulence apps would be unleashed so quickly.

Now you might ask why would anyone be searching for fart-related items in the first place.  Good question.  I’m going to blame my friend Dan’s post on the new Who Farted app for catching my eye this morning.  And I guess I should also come clean and admit that I have purchased this app today.

I think my daughter will get a big kick out of it, especially given its ability to ‘release’ any of its 30 loud and proud rude sounds on a timer (1 minute later, 5 minutes later etc).  That’s my excuse anyway, and I’ll be sticking to it :)

Anyway, if you’re in dire need of this sort of app, just try that little search out …

these will be so much better on the 3G. My 2G’s speakers are such poo and my ringtones don’t play very loudly at all. I’ve even gone to the trouble of using a threading needle to clean the speaker hole out.

As it is I’m farting with a silencer.

26 now.

I don’t know if I should be pissed off about Apple letting even more CrapAPP shite into the appstore or if I should be glad that Apple is loosening the reigns a little. Still – there’s nothing more frustrating than seeing over 160 apps get added to the store in the past 12-18 hours and not seeing one worth while application (for me).

Not all of them come up under a search for “fart” – there’s actually MORE. GasMaster, for example….

brandon – I know what you mean, and it is a big pain sifting through all the junk to find the occasional gem (or just something worthwhile), but I’d still say I’m glad they are loosening things a bit.

joet – unreal – wonder what the over / under line is for how many there will ultimately be in say 6 months, or how many will survive / thrive …
