Somehow this news doesn’t come as a real shocker to me:
Nevada gambling regulators have warned casinos in the state about a card-counting program that works on Apple Inc.’s iPhone and iPod Touch that illegally helps players beat the house in blackjack.
Card counting itself is not illegal under Nevada gambling laws, but it is considered a felony to use devices to help count cards.
With all the incredible things developers have made the iPhone do, card counting was bound to come along at some point – and according to some of its reviews, Card Counter apparently does it very well. And to be fair, the slant of the program seems very much to be teaching you to count cards (which is apparently not illegal) and not so much doing it for you.
So although the Vegas casinos are on the lookout for this app running on iPhones, most of the app’s reviewers seem like they’ve done their learning already and don’t need the phone with them in a casino. If you want to give this a try, it’s in the App Store now at $2.99
Anybody tried this one out yet? Win big with it? How long before we see a rival app called ‘Rain Man’?
