Quick Look: iSamJackson soundboard app [iPhone App Reviews]

January 13, 2010

iSamJackson is a soundboard app featuring the voice and attitude of the one and only Samuel L. (Samuel-ell) Jackson. I’m not usually one to play around or even try Soundboard apps because, frankly, most of them look like rip-offs. iSamJackson doesn’t stray much from the formula, but he’s made enough of an impression on me [...]

Quick Look: Panelfly, possibly the best comic reader on the iPhone

January 5, 2010

Panelfly is a free comic reader for the iPhone that is only available on the US iTunes store (as far as I know). It features an interface that’s sexier, more dynamic, and much easier on the eyes than the excellent Comics app (reviewed here). The basic reading experience is pretty similar to what we’ve seen [...]

Quick Look: Movies Now! for iPhone

January 1, 2010

Movies Now! sounds like an app for people who simply can’t wait to get showtime information – but I’d say the opposite holds true. I was browsing through Beautiful Pixels’ favourite iPhone user interfaces of the year when I stumbled upon their paragraph about Movies Now! (sorry for shouting). Beautiful Pixels’ description of the app [...]

Review: Dolphin Experience for iPhone

November 12, 2009

Who doesn’t want to have their very own pet dolphins with which to play, feed, pet, and interact with on a daily basis?

I can tell you one person who absolutely does want that – my daughter Zoe. She’s six (and a half!) and thinks the Dolphin Experience app is Grrrrrrrrreat.  Here’s a little slice [...]

Review: AnyRing, jailbreak ringtone maker that works right on the iPhone

October 19, 2009

I love my iPhone, but there are a couple of things that Apple hasn’t addressed even in this third year of the platform. Editing the user dictionary is one thing (some auto-correction suggestions are words that don’t even exist), but what of SMS ringtones? You can actually “replace” the default mail sound now with Mailtones, [...]

Quick Look: Lets Draw Some Sheep for iPhone

October 2, 2009

Clouds are easy to draw: they’re just big, fluffy blobs that float in the air — and most of us are never close enough to them to really criticize how well they’re drawn. Sheep are another story altogether. Yeah, they might look like a bunch of clouds strategically attached in various sizes, but they’re trapped [...]

Review: Comics, a digital comic reader and store for the iPhone

July 31, 2009

One thing that comics can’t easily achieve in paper form is the idea of a panned shot. You either have the whole two-page spread of the hero pulling out his weapon to kill the villain, or you do a reveal on the next page and leave the reader in suspense. This is an area where I [...]

June 9, 2009

My daughter’s home from school today, so it’s time for another joint review effort.  Today we’re taking a quick look at two of the titles in the MPB series from Moving Picture Books – MPB: Monkeys and MPB: Spaghetti.
MPB Monkeys is a version of ‘Eight Silly Monkeys’, and MPB: Spaghetti is a version of [...]

All of us love youtube videos but it has been a frustrating experience searching for high quality videos amongst the millions of videos on youtube. We did [...]

Review: Barguments for iPhone

May 18, 2009

Apart from my one minor gripe, I am very fond of this app. Although I was unaware of the book and the web site and the momentum behind the barguments ‘movement’, it’s definitely a concept I’ve embraced and cherished for many years. In fact, when my brother and I venture out, I’m not sure we cover much of anything that does *not* fit into the barguments category. :)
