I’ve always been a fan of a ‘naked’ phone (PDAs are another story) feel, but I’m pretty wary about keeping my device in my pocket because of how easily it can just slip out as I move about. I’m also quite worried about the wire of my Shure earphone adapter getting messed up as I sit down or move around with my iPhone in my pocket (my friend had to RMA his Shure adapter because of that).
So ladies and gentlemen of the mobile world, welcome to today’s review. Please hit the jump to read words I wrote and look at pictures I took of the vertical pouch case from PDAir.
A few months ago I had the opportunity to review the Otterbox Defender Series Case for iPhone. It is an impressive case that adds a high degree of protection to the iPhone. Otterbox has now taken their commitment to protecting our precious devices to the next level with their new Armor Series Cases for iPhone and iPod.
The Armor Series cases provide even more protection from dust, dirt, drop and scratch than the Defender Series. In addition, they are waterproof and snowproof. (To read my review of the iPod case visit our “sister” site JustAnotherMobileMonday.)
How well does it protect the iPhone? With what other case could you do this—
For the last two weeks I have had the opportunity to use the Premium Leather Open Face iPhone Case from Prima Leather. The case is thin, light and well made.
In fact, I found the actual case to be far better constructed than the website pictures indicate. The sleek design protects the phone while detracting little from its sleek appearance. In fact, in my opinion, the case adds to it.
So how does this $29.95 case stack up against the ever-increasing number of iPhone cases?
I have long been a huge fan of Sena cases and have used them on a wide variety of devices. The high quality leather, the excellent workmanship, and the reasonable price all combine to make Sena cases among my favorites. The Sena Magnetic Flipper Case for iPhone I have been using for the last two weeks is no exception, and I’m really pleased to be able to review it here.
The Sena website describes the case in this way:
The MagnetFlipper is made of premium European leather and is specially designed for smartphones and other mobile devices. The MagnetFlipper offers device port openings, pocket(s) for business or credit cards, and slots for memory cards. Utilizing gravity, the cover is engineered with a hinged bottom and magnetic fastening system at top, thus allowing the cover to be flipped out of the way with a flick of the thumb and enabling the user to quickly answer the phone. Like all Sena accessories, the MagnetFlipper is custom designed for a myriad of devices, resulting in a slim and snug fit.
A number of weeks ago I got into a fairly serious car accident. While there was a significant amount of damage to my Subaru Outback no one was hurt and that is all the really matters. I needed a rental while my Subaru was being fixed and when I got to the rental place all they had was a big SUV. Beggars can’t be choosers so I took i t.
How was it? It was BIG!
Big as in “I eat Outbacks for lunch!”.
Big as in “Look at me… I’m king of the world!”
Big as in “Gallons per mile rather than miles per gallon.”
Okay, maybe it wasn’t THAT big, but coming from an Outback it sure looked that way when I first saw it.
Then I got in the truck. Boy was I surprised. It didn’t FEEL nearly as huge as it looked. Moreover, it was amazingly comfortable and it drove and handled far more smoothly than I could have possibly imagined. Best of all, while driving it I felt safe, even invincible, which, having just had an accident, was a welcome feeling.
That kind of sums up my experience using the Otter Box Defender Series for iPhone. When I opened the box my first thought was, “Boy is that one big case!” Once my phone was in it and I actually started to use it I was pleasantly surprised. It no longer felt that big at all.
A short while ago JavoEDGE sent me a few cases to take a look at from their new AlloyVision line-up for the iPhone. Well, actually they sent me all four cases (Black, Red, Silver and Magenta) to check out. So rather than give you pages and pages of me blabbering… I figured why not just give you a bunch of images and give you some thoughts about this new hybrid style plastic and metal case towards the end?!
One aspect of the iPhone that distinguishes it from all previous devices is that it is truly a “full-time” device. I carry it with me all the time. It is– my phone, my email device, my mp3 player, my web surfer, my video player, my rss reader, my todo list (loving “Remember the Milk” these days) and the list goes on and on. In fact there are some situations in which I would normally have brought my laptop or tablet but don’t anymore.
My iPhone is the first thing I check in the morning. It is the last thing I check at night. It is even my alarm clock (review/commentary coming soon…) But while my iPhone fits pretty much any user scenario for me, the case I carry it in does not. The case I use during the work day when I keep it in my suit pocket isn’t necessarily the one that best fits carrying it on my off hours when my preferred garb is jeans and a t-shirt. And since I am heading off to a beach vacation soon, the leather cases I normally use are probably not ideal for the sand and sun of Aruba. As a result, even though I am quite pleased with the two cases I have been using regularly, I am always on the lookout for one that might better suit one situation or another.
I have been lucky enough to try out two new cases recently and am pleased to be able to review both over the next few weeks.
First up– the Marware Sportsuit Convertible case for iPhone (Marware also makes one specifically for the iPod Touch).
Let me start with the conclusion. I like it. I like it a lot. And I can already see situations where it might be the ideal case to use. Read on so I let you know why I like it …
I’m the first to admit that I’m very protective when it comes to my Tech-Toys. On the other hand, I hate to see my gadget all wrapped up like a mummy. Yeah, I know it doesn’t make sense at all, or does it?
So, when I first got my hands on the Apple iPhone, one of my biggest dilemma wasn’t to Jailbreak or not, but rather how to keep my gadget in pristine condition. In fact, I spent another $30+ on a crystal case before I even left the Apple Store. Of course that’s $30+ wasted, as I no longer use it after just several days of use.
Like millions of people out there that own an iPhone, there is one thing that is always on my mind. How do I protect my iPhone without compromising it’s beauty and more importantly its functionality. Now, I know that’s a tough one. Do I protect my iPhone like a tank? Wrap it like a baby and hide its sexy curves? Or forget about protecting the device, and just go naked? To be honest, I don’t mind going naked. Err, my device that is. So what to do?
Ah, the ever elegant iPhone. No matter what you have to say about the lack of functionality, closed OS, EDGE data speeds, etc etc the one thing you really have to give Apple on this device is how amazing it looks. There’s very few devices out there with such a simple design that look as incredible as the iPhone. So why would you want to put a case around it that looks any less elegant?
A little earlier we looked at a the JAVOClear which while providing excellent protection for the iPhone, also kept the iPhone center stage no matter if you were using it or had it on your belt. This Sena Elega pouch for the iPhone takes the protection to a whole new level by hiding your iPhone from prying eyes until you’re ready for it to be seen. Only problem with this is that the Elega looks so good there’s no guaranteeing that someone won’t snag it just because it’s incredible on its own!
How many GPS-based applications do you expect to see for the iPhone in the future? A hundred? Two hundred? I say, all of them. Whenever it makes sense, the app will know where you are and where other iPhone users are, and make use of it. It’s going to be useful, it’s going to be fun, and it’s going to be huge. — Mashable
