Alright, not a golfer. Not even remotely a golfer but I can respect ingenious use of the accelerometer! You had to figure sometime someone was going to come up with a perfectly fun game that included a huge risk of your iPhone heading out the front window … anyway, check the video and hit the link above to download iGolf. Best part - its a freebie!
I’ve played a few racing games on my Sony Ericsson k750 and used the little joystick on the phone to control things, but the experience never really came together. Joysticks are good for certain things, but I always thought racing games needed steering wheels. Then the App Store came out and everything changed. The makers of a fancy pants game called Cro-Mag Rally claimed that we could treat the whole iPhone as a steering wheel. I smiled and frowned (simultaneously – it looked weird). Would tilting my iPhone left and right make for a better experience, or would I just going to give myself vertigo while sitting still?
I first saw Enigmo in a video of the unveiling of the iPhone SDK. I’ve tried a fair number of games on the DS and on my Sony Ericsson k750, so I was wondering how the iPhone could handle gaming. A lack of hardware buttons is a pretty big deal when you’re dealing with controls.
Thankfully, Pangea has really paved the way in terms of porting an experience with gameplay that really feel like it’s meant for the iPhone. Enigmo’s premise is a simple one: guide the droplets of water from the coloured drip into the similarly coloured vessel. You use a variety of tools to bounce, drop, and shoot the droplets – ultimately guiding 40 of them into the vessel to win the level. It’s like a pachinko machine, but with water!
I’ve gotta say I’m pretty psyched to see these games, and I hope that they can add more depth to than their mobile Spore version, which looks like a very casual version of the Spore experience. I want deeper gameplay experiences on the iPhone like the stuff PSN and Xbox Live seem to be getting with their downloadable games that retail for $10-15.
Marines, get some! Ok, so that has nothing to do with this post. I’ve just been watching too much Generation Kill on HBO. But when I’m not watching high quality mini-series about marines in Iraq, I like to spend a bit of time gaming on my iPhone. And what better way to burn a few minutes (hours) than with a free and ridiculously good-looking Tetris clone called Tris. The game was on Installer in the pre-2.0 days, but it’s now official and in the App Store and has a real uniform and everything!
Hit the jump for a quick look at the game, and what to expect.
Cool jailbreak app of the weekend? No doubt about this weekend’s winner - now that Quake4iPhone has appeared on the Cydia installer.
We’d been seeing reports for quite a bit about Quake getting ported to the iPhone - nice to see it made it.
I’ve only tried the game out briefly today, but it plays well so far. There is an Options area (which I found a little difficult to work with), sound and music, and very little lag when playing. Main thing, it’s quite playable - moving around and firing are easy to do.
It doesn’t make use of the accelerometer - but if you’re a Quake fan, this is a good bit of Sunday fun for sure.
Tap Tap Revolution - the iPhone fast tapping music game that has been one of the most popular iPhone jailbreak games - has been updated, improved, renamed, and is ready for the App Store.
The new version of the game is called Tap Tap Revenge. The concept of the game - fast tapping to the beat of the track playing as lights hit the bottom line - has stayed the same, while various enhancements have been added - including the ability to shake the phone during gameplay and a new two-player mode.
TTR is the creation of Nate True, one of the original iPhone hackers and apps developers, and is now being marketed by new iPhone software publisher, Tapulous.
It’s good to see a long-time favorite game headed for the App Store. And … it will be free and available on July 11th when the store launches.

Fancy a bit of military conquest on the iPhone? Plotting tank attacks and Maneuvering your infantry into perfect positions to route the enemy? Cool. I know I do - and Agile Forces is just the game to satisfy those needs on the iPhone.
It’s a turn-based strategy game that offers multiple levels of war strategy scenarios, plays very well on the iPhone and has some very nice features. Agile Forces is from Agile Mobile - the same folks who just brought out what I think is the best IM client for the iPhone - Agile Messenger - a couple days back.
Ok so, gaming on the iphone/touch is coming, it’s inevitable, and it’s going to be OH SO sweet! You’ve seen all the jailbroken emulators with their tiny touchscreen control pads and claims that “It’s like the real thing!” Yea, well, forget all that…iControlPad launching in tee-minus 3, 2…soon! http://www.icontrolpad.com/
The iControlPad is an accessory that slides onto the iPhone and adds hardware buttons and a joypad, in a PSP sort of form factor.
We have our first prototype put together and the design works very well, we don’t have the Start and Select buttons on this version but don’t worry they will be in the final set up. The current system is slightly smaller than the PSP and feels very nice to hold and use.
The iPhone is locked perfectly in place when in the control pad.
And yes, we plan to make an iTouch version too!
