I’ve gotta say I’m pretty psyched to see these games, and I hope that they can add more depth to than their mobile Spore version, which looks like a very casual version of the Spore experience. I want deeper gameplay experiences on the iPhone like the stuff PSN and Xbox Live seem to be getting with their downloadable games that retail for $10-15.
So there I am relaxing on my couch, looking for a new Cydia update, and then you bust out this dot upgrade and add all sorts of incredible new features.
Right on the top of my list here is the new Quickview (shown above), which allows you to actually read e-mail and text right on the unlock screen. You can even ‘mark as unread’ or delete.
There are also disgustingly cool new swipe features that lets you hide and reveal Intelliscreen with one swipe. Clean wallpaper one second, swipe right on the clock, Intelliscreen reveals itself – ambushing you with all the information you want.
These are just my highlights, though. The release notes page for the other upgrades and all the bug fixes. I strongly suggest you update ASAP. This update rocks! I’m really digging the new Quickview feature. I get all these stupid SMS for Voicemail and I used to have to take 10 seconds to delve into SMS just to clear it. Now I swipe right on the SMS and it’s marked as read. Perfect!
Best Buy has announced that they will begin selling the iPhone on September 7 at their nearly 1,000 stores, becoming the first retailer besides Apple and AT&T to do so. Apple cited the good relationship with Best Buy, who currently sells Macintosh computers, iPods, and accessories, as one of the main reasons for allowing Best Buy to sell the iPhone.
Mmm, how I’ve missed my system tray alerts and e-mail previews on the unlock screen! That’s right, folks, Intelliscreen (review here) is back on the iPhone and works on 2.0. There are still a couple of bugs here and there (I have a heck of a time re-sizing the windows!) but it seems to be in pretty decent working order. Just add the source: http://intelliborn.com/cydia to Cydia and enjoy!
Btw, is it just me or is IntelliDial a bit faster now? Maybe it’s because my contacts aren’t set up with pictures yet..’
So the new firmware is out with a lot of bug fixes, 200+ MB of them. That’s the size of the file you’re going to have to download to update your iPhone – let’s hope they fixed some of the really iCrashing bugs to merit such a big patch. Just sync your iPhone up to see the update or, if you’re like me, sit on your laurels and wait for WinPwn to come up with a new version so you can patch.
AHEM … not to get anyone into a rush to go spend $10 at the iTunes store … but everyone’s favorite here one minute gone the next application is back again!
NullRiver might have touched off a sore spot with this one. Netshare is pretty much 100% against the terms of your contract with AT&T as it basically allows you to tether your PC to your iPhone for data:
Since AT&T is likely to start crying a river to Apple any minute now , you better go and get it while you can. Oh - PS the only way to get it right now is to use the direct link since it isn’t showing up in a search. Just picked it up a minute ago so I know it was working as of 1:30pm MST on Friday. And yes - I know I can do this for free if I jailbreak. But after jailbreaking my iPod touch a few hours ago - I have to tell you, there’s not a chance I’m doing it to my iPhone 3G. Waaay to unstable right now. Edit … and its gone again. I sure hope Apple puts out a public announcement on this one.
Your hear far too often about hackers developing cracks for the iPhone, but it’s not everyday you hear about the iPhone developing its own cracks (cue laughter…please!). Engadget Mobile posted about some 3G owners developing cracks in their new 16GB iPhones that show up all the more because of that ivory white sheen. Black iPhones aren’t safe either, although the damage is a lot harder to see.
I read through a few of the comments, but saw the usual flame war start to prop up just a few posts down. I did like this line from commenter Jakob Henner, though: “I think the white iPhone 3G is an egg, this is just the beginning. In 2 weeks we will see a lot of Apple-designed dragons walking around.”
AT&T also confirmed that sales of the iPhone 3G were "nearly double levels achieved in AT&T’s 2007 iPhone launch" across the 12 days following its US launch. And that’s despite limited availability of the device.
That’s a little excerpt from AT&T’s reporting of their second quarter results last week. I’d been waiting for some sort of comparison of the sales success during the first iPhone launch vs. this year and the 3G model - as it still seems slightly incredible to me that the lines and shortages have carried on this long.
I’m looking forward to seeing more sales numbers from AT&T and Apple to put this all in good context …
Aurora Feint, the thoroughly excellent (and free, would you believe?) game has been removed from the App Store due to privacy concerns over its Community feature, which allowed you to see which of your friends were playing the game at the same time. The concern surrounds the fact that Aurora Feint apparently uploads your entire Contacts list — unencrypted — to the developer’s server.
Munster says that Apple didn’t correctly predict the initial demand for the product and has been left without stock to sell. He believes four weeks is the lead time Apple needs to ramp up orders and get new units delivered to its stores.
According to multiple reports - including this one - round the web over the weekend, the iPhone 3G is sold out just about everywhere in the US now - and it may now take up to four weeks for Apple to get their stores re-supplied.
Ouch. Not good for anyone who was hoping to wait for the lines to die down and grab one in a more civilized manner.
Any of you still looking round for a 3G? Or waiting on re-supply for local stores?
The market for jailbreak apps is ONLY in countries where there is no App Store. Hackers and non-mainstream apps will move over to Android… — Craig Hockenberry, IconFactory (makers of Twitterific)
