Bizarro iPhone App of the Day: New Years Party

Here’s the iTunes description of todays Bizarro iPhone App:

How would you like to be the hit at your next New Years party? Well,iTunes-2 now is your chance! Just pull out your iPhone or iPod Touch and watch people’s reactions as you amaze them with your New Years noise makers. All it takes is a quick tap on the screen to watch and hear them play. Features include: - Popper with exploding streamers and sound effect. - Party Horn with animation and sound effect. - Party Spinner with animation and sound effect. - Crowd Scene with the cheer “Happy New Year”. Ring in the new year with “New Years Party”! It’s like having a New Years Party in your pocket!

Oh … right :) THAT is how to be a big hit at a party huh.  Ya might want to have a backup party to skulk away to if you follow this strategy, I feel.  Or  you could just head home on your own, since you’ve got a ‘New Years Party in your pocket’ anyway, right?

Marvelous - and only $0.99 in the App Store now ….

New: HP iPrint Photo - Wireless Printing from the iPhone

iPrint Photo iPhone printing application

HP iPrint Photo promises to let you easily and quickly print photos from your iPhone …

This looks very, very cool.  I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but the new (and free) HP iPrint Photo application promises to provide easy and fast wireless photo printing from your iPhone.

Its features listed on its iTunes description include:

  • Full compatibility with Apple’s Bonjour technology, which automatically identifies HP wireless printers or other supported HP printers on the network (assume this means HP printers attached to and shared from a PC on same wireless network as iPhone - but have not tested it yet)
  • Defaults to printing 4" X 6" borderless photos

iPrint Photo is in the App Store now - HERE - and is a free app.

I’m very keen to try this one out.  Anybody using this yet?

Yay - You Can Also Find BKs and Subway Outlets Via Dedicated iPhone Apps

SubFinderBKFinder

I posted yesterday on the new (and to me somewhat bizarre) FIND-A-KFC application - which is a dedicated app for helping you stay a(chicken)breast of where the nearest 5 KFC outlets are at any given point in time, given your current location info and all that good stuff.

I don’t know why, but yesterday I thought the KFC app might be a sort of one-off.  Well … not so much.  Today I noticed another new one in the App Store called SUBFinder (to find the 5 closest Subway outlets), from the same developers who produced the KFC app, iDelux.   After doing a quick search, I also found BK Finder (to find the 5 closest Burger King outlets), also from iDelux.

While meandering around that particular section of the App Store, I saw that there a number of apps which are more general ‘fast food finders’.  So I guess I’m still as curious as yesterday about whether there is really an audience for the ’single-chain finder’ sort of app.  I just can’t quite picture that many folks being soooo devoted to BK, or KFC, or whichever chain, that they need a dedicated app for it.  I may be way off, but I feel happy enough with general restaurant finders.  And I would definitely feel like a general fast-food finder would have me covered for this area, if I felt the need for speed, so to speak.

The wonders of the App Store never cease I guess …

Tweetie = My New Favorite iPhone Twitter App

Tweetie iPhone application

Tweetie is a very slick looking (and acting) iPhone Twitter application, and my new favorite in this category

It’s been a fair while since I’ve found an iPhone app in an established category (one where I’ve already tried one or more apps and have a clear preferred choice) that became an instant hit with me and knocked off an existing favorite.

That’s the case for me with Tweetie, an iPhone Twitter client.  I have been a fan of Twinkle ever since its launch back in the jailbreak arena, but so far (and admittedly I have only been using Tweetie for a short while) Tweetie tops it.

Bizarro iPhone App of the Day: FIND-A-KFC

FindAKFC

OK, so we could probably make this an hourly feature if we put our minds to it, with the current rate of, shall we say, completely off the wall apps that come out for the iPhone in a seemingly continuous stream.  For now though, this will just be an occasional category, for when an app doesn’t just catch our eye, but actually makes us scratch our head and say ‘Huh - you’re kidding me right’.

Today’s entry is FIND-A-KFC.  The opening line of the application’s description in iTunes is:

Doesn’t some KFC sound good right about now?

My answer is Yeah, damn straight it does.  I’m a big KFC fan, have been ever since I was a kid.  But … I am not a big enough (obsessed enough???) fan to feel any need to know (at any given point in time) exactly where the 5 closest KFC outlets are, in relation to my current position.

Maybe I’m just not a hardcore enough KFC guy these days.  If any of you are, you can grab FIND-A-KFC in the App Store now for $0.99.

MyWisdom - iPhone Quotes Application - First Impressions

MyWisdom iPhone application

MyWisdom - a new iPhone quotes application - seems quite a good option to me, if you like a bit of wisdom and witty quotations in your life …

iPhone ‘Quote of the Day’ applications are probably not right up at the top of most iPhoners’ ‘Must Have’ list - but I am very fond of quotes collections in almost all forms.  I feel that although I am not a purveyor of witty, pithy lines, I am a very good appreciator of them.

So the new MyWisdom app caught my eye amongst the myriad of new releases yesterday.  I’ve been messing with it a fair bit since installing it yesterday, and really enjoying it.

Here’s a brief list of its main features:

  • More than 1,500 quotes, from 350 authors
  • 19 categories
  • photos of authors of the quotes
  • daily updated Quote of the day to inspire yourself
  • add your favorite quotes to Favorites
  • play Wisdom Quiz to test your knowledge of famous quotes
  • send quotes via email
  • one touch access to information about quotes’ authors

Hit the jump for some more screenshots and a few quick thoughts on MyWisdom …

iPhone Sharepoint App Coming Soon

iSharephone iPhone Sharepoint app

iSharephone - which promises to bring fast, easy, and secure access to Sharepoint from the iPhone - is due to make it to the App Store soon …

I haven’t used it in a while, but I’m a big fan of Sharepoint.  It’s always struck me as one of Microsoft’s rare ‘Best of Breed’ applications over recent years and just a very powerful and impressive product.  I was very happy to report back in June that there was an impressive looking Sharepoint app for the iPhone in the works.

This week I’ve received an email newsletter from iSharephone that let me know that:

You will soon receive an email notification when iSharePhone is available in the App Store.

Very cool.  Of course that statement leaves me wondering how soon is soon, but it still sounds good to me.  I’m hoping soon means very soon - as apparently the app is ‘out there’ being beta tested by some corporate users already.

Read on for a little more detail on iSharephone’s features and some screencaps …

Lies, Damn Lies, And Agile Lie Detector for the iPhone

ald-screen1

The guys at Agilemobile have just let us know they’ve released Agile Lie Detector - a voice stress analysis lie detector application - for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Right on time for helping to determine who’s been naughty and nice and all that I guess. Maybe use it to quiz the kids before doing any final bits of shopping for them :)

This (lie detectors) is one of those categories of iPhone app where my initial reaction is to be slightly amazed that such an app exists, but a very quick glance at the App Store showed me that at least four apps already populate this category - wow.  I haven’t had a chance to try Agile Lie Detector yet, but I’ll give it a go soon, as I’ve had very good experiences with other Agilemobile apps.

Agilemobile are the folks who brought us Agile Messenger - easily the best instant messaging app for the iPhone back in Pre-App-Store days, in my opinion - and Agile Forces - a very cool battle strategy game.

And both of these will also be coming to the App Store in ‘coming weeks’.  That’s very good news.

One last bit of good news from Agilemobile for today.  They’ve very kindly given us 5 promo codes for free copies of Agile Lie Detector for Just Another iPhone Blog readers.  I’ll do a separate contest post soon to share those out to y’all.

Read on for the full press release on Agile Lie Detector …
