Phony, get it? Hah….
I really like taking pictures, but I’ve always found it a little embarrassing snapping non-candit shots with my iPhone just because I feel a little silly doing it. I suppose that’s something all photographers have to get over eventually, though. However, the pictures in Chase Jarvis’ latest book “The Best Camera is the one that’s with you” (news via Gizmodo) were all taken with a 2G iPhone with a fixed focus lens and some are pretty fantastic. There’s obviously the big skill, technique, and experience gap between Chase Jarvis and myself, but what that book says to me is that if he can go around the world snapping awkwardly on a touch-screen shutter button, then I can at least try to do so without turning red and dumping a paper bag on my head.

In fact, while we’re on the topic of iPhone photography, I’d like to provide a little link love to photographer Steve John’s iPhoneography Flickr set (shot #57 is featured above). He seems to post one or two shots a day through his Twitter account (@frommystudio) and does all of his iPhone photo processing on the device itself. His flickr gallery is both a treat and a great resource for good iPhone camera apps. It’s seriously impressive how much the iPhone is capable of, and how many apps are out there to cater to photo nuts. I love it!

you said "It’s seriously impressive how much the iPhone is capable of, and how many apps are out there to cater to photo nuts" and i was just wondering what those apps were
i mean i know there's tons, but what are the best?
thanks
Hey Taylor
well I hope that post didn't come off as snooty — I don't have a huge, mind-boggling view of the iPhone app landscape and all of the camera-related apps that litter it, but I can try and name a few that I really like or are supposedly awesome:
Photogene
Photoforge
Snapture
Best Camera (haven't tried)
Photoshop Mobile
Autostitch
There are reviews on this site for Autostitch, Photogene, and Snapture.
Cheers!
Hi Taylor ~ You can modify your photos inPhone with an app like PhotoFx which has the best selection of filters but you have to mess about with them (experiment). The ones Thomas mentioned above are all good. Also for cut and pasting a great app is Juxtaposer. A great place for Photo app reviews is iPhoneography.com Hope this helps you~ Good luck.
Thanks Thomas for your kind words and for featuring my work btw~ it's appreciated, Steve.
Cheers, Steve
and thanks for the extra links!
What I like best about the best cam app is that it makes it fun to take pictures with your camera. Everything that goes through this little app looks 10 times better. I made a little before and after video for folks who don't know the app: http://bit.ly/3qmfaG
