Ever wonder how some of the really slick and effective user interface designs for iPhone apps are developed?  Or just find it interesting to get a look at how those who have the creativity and skills make these things happen?

We rarely hear very much about this stuff, and I find it very interesting – so thought I’d share a cool post from Felix Sockwell, an identity design and illustration expert who worked on the navigational icons for the New York Times’ much acclaimed iPhone app – an area he describes as an "often  ignored form of information illustration".

The article has lots of good ‘in progress’ and final images, and offers some concise explanations and background on some of the process for getting to the final products, including some compromises that needed to be made along the way with some of the more difficult subjects (like the Obituaries icon).

Well worth a look HERE
