I’ve been checking out just about every available voice notes application in the App Store over the last few days, as this is a type of program I’m very fond of – and one thing that has immediately stood out is that none of them offers a way to email recorded notes. This is a big drawback – especially since none seem to offer sync to a desktop or elsewhere as yet either – and of course it is a capability that jailbreak voice recording apps did offer.
I’ve spoken to a coupe of developers of voice notes apps now, and of course as I should have realized straight away, it appears that the reason there is no email option for the voice notes is an Apple restriction on doing so:
It seems the SDK does not allow 3rd party applications to email attachments from within the application.
For me, this makes a voice notes app decidedly less useful – since I often want to capture a note ‘on the fly’ on the iPhone, but then work with it on a computer.
There is some good news on this front though – the developers of at least a couple of the most promising looking voice notes apps are planning to add on syncing features in future updates.
That will be a huge factor in choosing a favorite program in this category. On that score, so far I think the app that looks the most promising to me is SpeakEasy Voice Recorder, shown in the screencap at the top of this post.
Anyone else found a voice notes app you like a lot yet?

jcurious – I have tried a few times to get into Jott over recent months. Still have an account, but I never seem to get into everyday / frequent usage pattern with it – not quite sure why …
