Lego iPhone car mount

Car mounts – for the iPhone and other smartphones – are usually all much of a muchness.  None of them stand out to me.  But wait … how about an iPhone car mount made entirely from Lego?  Oh yeah – that is standing out, and outstanding for that matter!

EIC forum member rattlhed came up with this creation – and seeing his forum post on it has made my Saturday (insert ‘get a life’ jokes here).  Here’s a little background on this landmark invention:

This weekend I had sudden inspiration to come up with an iPhone mount for my car. I was trying to figure out what materials to use, and Legos became the solution to my idea. … The contraption that I built is better than I could have ever hoped for. It holds the iPhone very securely. There is zero wiggle while driving, and I can press on the screen, turn it off an on, and it doesn’t slip or move. Now I can drive while controling my music, checking traffic, etc. without having to try and hold it in my hand.

The contraption fits perfectly in the accessory holder of my car, and wedges itself between the top/bottom and sides of the compartment, and gravity does the rest.

Rattlhed ended up making vertical and horizontal models of the mount, and is still weighing up which is his favorite.

For lots more details and more great photos check out this EIC forum thread.

I wonder whether this will inspire a brave new world of Lego iPhone stands and other accessories.  How many of you are thinking about where your old Lego sets are at right now?
