Five free promo codes for Acrobits‘ Softphone app to be won!

Contest Deadline: Wednesday, August 26, 2009 5:00pm US Pacific Time

I recently reviewed Acrobits Softphone (App Store link), and found it to be a very capable VoIP app for the iPhone, which allows one to make phone calls over wifi using a SIP account.

Softphone’s developers  have graciously provided us with 5 promo codes to offer to our readers during our Anniversary Contests. How can you win one of these promo codes? Read on to find out more.

How To Win:

*** Just add a comment to this post, making sure to fill out the “email address” field (don’t worry, it won’t be displayed and we won’t use it for any other reason than to contact you if you win) – and you’re in with an entry for our random drawing of winners on Wednesday.

*** For an additional entry, expand on your comment to include why you want this app. Do you currently use another VOiP solution? Tell us about it, and how you think Softphone will help you. This will earn you an additional entry, increasing your odds of winning.

That’s it! We’ll draw our five winners on Wednesday (8/26/09) sometime after 5:00 pm US Pacific time.

*** Please Note: The promo codes are only available for the US App Store, so you will need a US-based account to make use of them – keep this in mind when entering the contest.

*** Additional Note: Acrobits Softphone requires a SIP account to function. If you do not currently have a SIP account, you will have to create one with a VOiP service provider prior to being able to use this app. Refer to Acrobits’ website for more details.

*** Additional Note 2: Acrobits Softphone will only function over wifi. Due to limitations imposed by Apple, VOiP calling is not permitted over 3G or Edge wireless connections.

Good luck to all!

I've not used a VOiP client on the iphone yet, which is why I'd be VERY interested in trying this one out – for free :)

I have used Skype for a bit but nobody I know will download it to use. I just like the fact it will save my precious minutes. Seems like a handy app to have :)

I'd love to try out this client. I played a little bit with a Skype app but not very much. I'd love to figure out how to use it more.

Terrific earlier post! Would be great to win the softphone SIP app from acrobits — I've been angling for days on whether to purchase this, or go instead with iPico or iSip as my primary SIP client for the iPhone. I've opted to hold off simply because I can't test it out in advance, and because I know the vonage app is coming just around the corner.

Currently, I'm using Fring and have found the call quality to be excellent; my reasons for upgrading however are that the calls occasionally get dropped or do not connect on the first try. In addition, the UI is not terrific on Fring if you use the sip client a lot (which I do). The lack of speakerphone capability is another one — that acrobits supports recording and (it seems) better integration with the native contact lists would be icing on the cake.

How do I get a third entry in the drawing? ;)

Just wondering, if you make a call using this app does the receiver have to have it as well, like Skype?? It might be a dumb question but just wondering…. Thanks :)

Frank,

I used Softphone with a SIP account to call a person on a POTS line just fine. The app isn't dependent upon a user having any particular phone service, as long as they have a 10-digit phone number.

However, whatever SIP service you have an account with may have other limits or restrictions, so make sure to see what your account provides.

Softphone is just an app that works with an existing SIP account, you specify your account type, and enter your username/password.

Hope that answers your question. Thanks for the comment, and for entering the contest!

Regards,
-Josh

I'd like to try this app out. UI also looks great.

I'v been using both siphon(cydia) and iSip(AppStore) which are softphone applications for iPhone and iTouch.

But it's quite not working well with the VoIP provider, Wyz070 in Korea.
So. I'd love to try Acrobits Softphone out.

Thanks for this cool opportunity!

Just something to keep in mind, our promo codes are only valid for the US App Store. You mentioned a Korean VoIP provider, do you have a US-based iTunes account?

Nice review of this app. I am looking at integrating this SIP phone with Google Voice via Gizmo and would love to try it out.
