blackra1n

This is certainly a big week for jailbreak news – mostly good, and some not so good.  Staying in the good news category for now, GeoHot has now released a Mac version of his popular blackra1n jailbreak for iPhone OS 3.1.2 and all iPhone and Touch models except the 3rd gen Touch.

This latest release is similar to the Windows version and will work for all iPhones and every iPod touch (except for the third generation touch) on firmware 3.1.2.

In short, you will need to update your device using the official update path (iTunes) and then run blackra1n. The jailbreak is quick and easy.

Of course, the word of warning, if you care about having your iPhone unlocked (to be able to use it on a carrier other than the official) then you will not, repeat not, want to use blackra1n. If you fall into the unlock category, you will want to check , out PwnageTool, which was released yesterday by the DevTeam.

You can grab a Mac or Windows download for blackra1n HERE.  I know some of you have been having issues with blackra1n, but my experience has been all smooth and good so far.  Let us know what your latest results are, with Mac or Windows version of blackra1n or with Pwnage Tool.

What happens when you try? What errors do you get? On Windows or Mac?
