So iPhone OS 3.0 is out there – has been available for download for a little over two hours now.
I’ve been running all the betas of it for around 2.5 months now, and have the GM build, which is apparently identical to (and carries the same version number as) the final release today – so it looks like I don not need to do any updating.
I’m very keen to hear what all of you think of 3.0 once you’ve had a chance to play round with it a bit. Nobody’s doing any serious working or studying today right? Here’s betting that you’ll like copy&paste a lot once you get used to it, and Spotlight tons right away – and memory leaks not so much.
Let us know in the comments what you like, what you don’t, and what your overall impressions are so far?

Well, the update downloaded, installed on my phone, crashed my phone so that I had to do a complete reinstall and when I did had to wait an hour of trying to connect to the iTunes store to unlock my phone. Reinstalling all content now. Let you know when I'm finally done.
2nd Gen iPod touch installed 3.0 fine. Very impressed. Browser pages scroll faster and draw quicker too. UI is more responsive and all features expected are present … very good 3.0!
Why not? Identical build number indicates that there's no difference at all between them…
cylonjason – sorry you've had aggravation with it – hope it is all working out for you.
Jamie W – I agree – 3.0 is very good overall.
Evilping / Entaum – I have the same impression as Entaum – same build number / version number, same file size, same md5 hash, and the Gold Master name – would all say to me that the final version is no different to the GM …
Cannot activate due to server being down
Seems a little slower to me
. Pages are sticking a little. I did a complete reinstall.
I think I was expecting to much, I was slightly dissapointed. There's not a lot different really and my keypad still does the space bar freeze thing and the web has started flickering and jumping to the top of the page too! Not sure what that's about tho
Chris2Point0 – ouch, sorry to hear that – but on the bright side, great username
masseym – hmmm, haven't seen that myself with last couple builds, except when running low on memory. Do you use the (free) Free Memory app at all? Might come in handy to check on, and free up, memory whe you're seeing some lag …
I've just notived I havne't got a Notifications setting option? My settings menu still looks the same as before? Iphone 3G from O2…..
No problems whatsoever. What seemed slow at the time sounds pale in comparison to what others have experienced. I was online when the software was released so I managed to get it all done in a half hour (restarting, downloading etc)
Software itself, I'm still getting to know the fella so I've just about touched the tip of the iceberg. Can't wait to try out stuff in real life – the copying, pasting, forwarding etc.
Speed is normal for me
Davy – sorry to hear you're disappointed – but think it may grow on you as you get to know it.
Dakers – you will not see the Notifications settings button / bar in Settings until you have an app that is capable of using them. Try installing Tap Tap Revenge 2.6 (believe that's still free) – as it has push capabilities …
notes doesn't seem to want to sync to Outlook on windows. I've ticked the option in iTunes but it tries with no luck.
What error do you get?
One word: SLOWer
Although I like the Google Maps's new updated directions.. giving you the distance on the same step, so you don't have to constantly hit previous step to remember what your distance was supposed to be..
maybe I won't need it once tomtom is out.. but that was an improvement I have used several times already..
Tony – wow, sorry to hear it is slower for you – most folks seem to find it faster, including me …
I was out today and did not get a chance to update until around 6pm Eastern. Connected both my 3G and the wife's 2G and downloaded for both quickly and easily, and updated just as painlessly.
Safari does seem faster, mail search is a godsend. Still playing with it.
Just finished downloading the 3.0 software on my 3G. The update was pretty quick although I realized that I'm missing a few things.
1) I don't see the little camera on the bottom left to attach to take and attach a picture
2) Don't have the "NOTIFICATIONS" showing in settings.
3) missing the "invitees" option in my calendar.
Is anyone else missing any features?
1) I don't see the little camera on the bottom left side of the text messaging screen, used to take and attach photos is a message.
Emilio – Notifications will only show up in Settings when you have an app installed that can make use of it. Try installing Tap Tap Revenge 2.6 (it's free) and you should see it then.
Not sure on other missing elements.
A2DP does not seem to work. I can pair with my KO 500 speakers from The Sharper Image but cannot send audio to them. Once again, iPhone A2DP = FAIL!
PLASKEY….. I have the same speakers and the same thing is happening to me…. I wonder if it is the speakers…
I believe it is. I was able to get the iPhone to connect to a different pair of headphones with no problems. THe sound quality was pretty good as well. I have seen many other posts where useres are having trouble with the KO500 speakers specifically. The funny thing is that they worked with my Treo 750 a couple of years ago.
I did notice that the audio lags behind video by several seconds when watching movies and listening with Bluetooth headphones. Another FAIL.
