Just a few weeks ago I discovered the Audiobook Player app for the iPhone, and liked it a lot – and posted about it HERE. As the name would imply, this app lets you listen to audio books on the iPhone – it costs only $0.99 and gives you access to over 2,000 * free * public domain books in beautifully narrated audio book format.
Today the app has received a major update, and one that adds a few very welcome new features – in fact nearly all my biggest wish list items for the app when I reviewed it.
The biggest improvement is that you can now browse for and discover new content in a number of useful ways – search by titles, browse by authors and genres, as well as ‘top books’ and recently added books. Hurrah – this was my Number 1 wish list item for the app – more ways to find good content quickly. Done, dusted, very cool.
I can now search for a favorite book, like say The Beautiful and Damned, and find it rapidly …
Browse through genres and decide what I’m in the mood for …
I was surprised to see there is a good list of titles for children …
I can look through titles for classic authors …
Or favorite authors …
I love the inclusion of the Recently Added section as well …
One of my other small complaints in my review of Audiobook Player was that the text previews for books were chopped off and provided very little detail, and an audio preview was just not the same in my view, as it was not a true preview, but rather a launch straight into the beginning of the chosen book. This has also now been corrected.
Now if you choose to preview a book you get a lovely full page preview with more than enough detail to make up your mind with:
All-round a great update I think. I was already fond of this app, now I am very, very fond of it.
If you’re after some great free audio book content, and a great app to deliver it to you, Audiobook Player is out in the App Store now, and costs $0.99.
