Gorillacam

I’m still really happy with the default camera app because, despite its lack of features, it’s the only camera app I know of that can switch between video and photo modes with a toggle. However, if you’ve been looking for another app to take Camera’s place, then you might want to take a look at Gorillacam. I think its feature list and implementation actually give Snapture a run for it’s money, which is a surprise, considering Gorillacam is free. The app comes from Joby (makers of the Gorillapod tripods), but was actually made by AppTight.

Gorillacam provides quite a number of ways to take pictures (burst, time lapse, tap anywhere), and it has extras like a grid view and a bubble level, as well as a built-in manual to help you take full advantage of all the features. The app saves pictures as you go, so you can just focus on shooting instead of having to wait for the digital shutter to open up again (as is the case with the default camera app). One feature that I still think is sorely missing is any ability to use tap-to-focus. It’s this factor and the video omission that keeps me from really trying the app out, but you can head over to iTunes and pick up your own copy for free.

Is there some API restriction against camcorder apps? I'm in the same boat as you, I just want a quality app that can do both or a secondary app that gets video recording right.

ProCamera now has a video mode as well. I hope it gets added to Camera Genius as that is my favorite camera app.

Does it have zoom and shake reduction -that's why I switched to Camera Genius?
