iPhone Video Recorder app

Had to be done – even before Ye Olde App Store opens its doors for business.  I’ve been using and enjoying iPhone Video Recorder for quite a while now, and have continued to be nothing but impressed with this application.

There have been frequent updates and by now it is a pretty complete video recording program – with good audio, a superb compression rate to keep file sizes very manageable, and the ability to quickly email yourself or others a video or share it directly to YouTube.  The developers have stated that there will be a version that runs on the 3G iPhone, it will be listed in the App Store, and registered users will be entitled to free upgrades.  I’m counting on all of that proving true, and on the developers continuing to enhance the program.

I had not really been planning on forking out money for any Pre App Store apps, but I like this one enough, use it enough, and feel it is deserving enough of support, that I’m happy diverting from ‘the plan’.

I also believe the developer’s stance that this will be a ‘crossover’ app and will be made to work with iPhone 2.0 firmware.  If I didn’t, no way I buy it of course.  I also have a feeling this one will do well in the App Store until and unless Apple swoop in with their own app in this area – and even if they do, iPhone Video Recorder may well help keep them on their toes in this area :)

So I purchased it tonight, just a little while ago.  Purchase process was smooth, I got my reg. key quickly, and the app accepted it without a hitch.

I feel good about my purchase.  Anyone else out there bought any jailbreak / crossover apps, or all you all waiting for the App Store?

Yep, bought it 2 days ago, needed to use this more and more to catch the kids up to their antics. It does what it says it will, with a few customisable options too, well done to the developers. I paid to show my support and desire for this kind of program on the iPhone.

Stupid thing is, EVERY phone I have had since 2000 has been able to do this out of the box. My last 3 phones have been 3G too here in the UK. Apple will no doubt address these things soon, hopefully MMS as well, that’s more than basic! But it is an omission I found hard to justify before jailbreaking.

Patrick – I’d love to see a list somewhere of what you guys carry on your phone. PS – I think most of these iPhone apps are priced way too high. I’ve already (very quickly) considered and lost interest in any that were looking for recurring registration fees. I think that’s a huge mistake on the part of the developers. Ultimately people want $19.95 single fee registration and not $59 fees.

@ pdm – Yeah – kids and antics are one of the very best reasons for getting this app for me as well. And I agree that it’s a big ommission by Apple.

@ mas90guru – Thanks for the list suggestion. I think that would be fun to do. I’m not sure what I think of the prices yet – will be interesting to see what happens in the App Store, and I certainly hope $19.95 is at the top end of things :)
