The Facebook app for iPhone – one of the first ‘headline’ apps for the iPhone and an enduring favorite for many, many iPhone users – has got a big update, to Version 3.0, coming very soon.
InsideFacebook.com has a post up with lots of detail on the upcoming version. Here’s just a little excerpt from their post:
The new home screen will definitely make for a friendlier user experience, especially with the addition of Events, Notes, Pages, and photo albums. The addition of the Pages feature means that brands with Facebook Pages will have increased visibility when users are on the go.
The post goes on to list over a dozen new features that will be included in the 3.0 version. I very rarely use Facebook – on the iPhone or anywhere – and find other social networks far less irritating – so I’m not a good judge at all of how good, bad, or mediocre the added features will be. To peruse the list for yourself and see what you think, check out the InsideFacebook post HERE.
The 3.0 update for the Facebook app is apparently ‘98% done’ and should be submitted to Apple soon. One thing it will not include is push notifications – which are expected to be included in a 3.1 version, due for release later this summer.

Can't wait, I use Facebook for iPhone multiple times a day.. I'm addicted lol. This looks like a huge improvement. I still don't understand why they weren't more prepared for 3.0 (push notifications), but that's not a huge thing for me because I get instant alerts with Mobile Me anyway.. Still waiting for the ability to upload videos from the 3GS. Great find Patrick!
Glad to hear it. The current app is kind of annoying, although I, too, use it multiple times a day.
Bobby, Lesley – be sure to let us know what you think of it once 3.0 comes out. As I said in the post, I'm not a good judge as I'm a very infrequent user of Facebook
