Simplenote has been around for a while, but it’s going to be a free app from now on. Simplenote is one of those apps that’s so minimal that it might as well be a blank piece of paper on an iPhone screen, except for the fact that it has free two-way online syncing. John Gruber loves the app, and that’s a pretty big endorsement in the tech world.
It’s a very simple, but functional note taking app: it has a landscape mode, full text search, features barely any buttons, and doesn’t even have the option of changing text or font sizes. You open the app up to write or read a note and then go on with your day. This was all too spartan for me to want to buy the app, but now that the service is free (supported by Fusion ads at the top of the screen), I’m giving it a shot.
If you want the ads to go away you can pay for a yearly subscription (no thanks right now), or just scroll right past them when you load the app up. In a very fair gesture, the developers have also allowed all previous owners of the app (back when it cost $2 or $3) to disable ads altogether, since they believe those customers have already paid for the right to an ad-free experience. Kudos to that.

There are plenty of good software for the iPhone and this app is one of them. This app is pretty useful and the best part is that it is free.
