SportsTap – a leading sports scores and information portal app for the iPhone – has been updated and now has push notifications enabled.
I’m very happy to see this one, as SportsTap has been a favorite app of mine ever since its days as a web app. I much prefer it to ESPN’s ScoreCenter, and like the way they have implemented alerts as well.
Instead of just offering the basic choice of whether to let notifications use sounds / alerts / badges, or serving me up alerts on everything the app deems a major headline, it lets me choose which sports, and even which teams I want to get alerts on.
I like that concept a lot, although it appears to be a bit buggy for me at the moment – in that it originally showed me all the sports and leagues that SportsTap covers, but once I chose MLB and some teams, it now only shows me MLB when I go back to adjust the settings. I hope I may find a way round this, or that it is something that will be fixed soon.
I also haven’t seen any actual alerts yet – though this is nor surprise as I updated and setup my preferences for MLB alerts – in the wee hours of the morning (last night).
The latest update – to Version 3.0 – also includes some UI enhancements and bug fixes. One notable one is a new method for customizing your sports page.
SportsTap 3.0 is in the App Store now, it’s still a free app, and a very good one if you’re a sports fan.
