Since its huge 2.0 update, Twitterrific has just edged out Tweetie as my favorite iPhone Twitter app, amongst a very tough field, and it’s the one I use most day to day. So I was very happy to see a post from David Chartier at Macworld this morning that provides a lot of detail on an upcoming 2.1 update for the app.
Chartier has been involved in beta testing the new version and some of the new features he describes sound very impressive. In fact, this sounds like a very major update, despite being ‘just’ a .1 release.
The biggest headline-type new feature is video recording and posting for iPhone 3GS users …
You can now flip that switch in the camera and tell your story with video, or you can pick a pre-recorded clip from the Camera Roll. You can use Apple’s provided tools for trimming the video before uploading, and you have a choice between yfrog, TwitVid, and Posterous for publishing your fancy movin’ pi’tures.
It’s also going to have a new ‘contact sheet’ that sounds very good to me …
Next on the headline feature list is a new contact sheet that makes it much easier to interact with your Twitter friends. From either Twitterrific’s main window or the tweet creation interface, tapping the new rolodex-card-like icon will display a sheet of your followers, followees, a username search box, and a list of the most recent people you’ve interacted with. This is a convenient way to add multiple @names to a tweet or quickly track down someone for a direct message.
This new version of Twitterrific was apparently submitted to Apple back on June 30th – so hopefully we should be seeing it released very soon. I know I’ll be very glad to see this one appear.

On push, I've heard some people say that a lot of leading Twitter app devs are not likely to do push themselves, but rather via a 3rd party.
On the submission date, I imagine perhaps they originally put it in back at the end of June and got knocked back once or more, so that date might be a re-submission date.
