Wimbledon 2009 for iPhone

We’re about to enter two of my favorite weeks in the annual sporting calendar – the fortnight where The Championships at Wimbledon are played.  Grass courts, rain delays (no more of these starting this year), Boris Becker, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, the Williams sisters, Steffi Graf, Federer, Nadal – I have tons of memories of skiving off work and watching these and many other great players do their thing at the greatest of all tennis tournaments.

The official iPhone app that’ll help you follow along with all the Wimbledon action is out now, all ready for the tournament’s kickoff next Monday, June 22nd.  It’s called Wimbledon 2009, it’s free, and packed with good features.

Wimbledon 2009 offers a News section – which already has items covering the qualifying rounds and other topics – such as a look at how Maria Sharapova is feeling leading up the tournament after her recent comeback from shoulder surgery …

There is a Scores section – that will of course not start showing anything until the tournament gets started …

There are also sections for the Draws (brackets) and Schedule of matches.

Finally, there is a Video section which will populate with highlights when the action gets going next week.  In the meantime, they’ve got a short highlights video from that epic Nadal / Federer final last year to whet our appetites.

I’ll certainly be trying hard to catch as much of Wimbledon as I can starting next week, and I’m glad to have an iPhone app to help me out with that.

Wimbledon 2009 is out now in the App Store, and it’s free.

Bobby – I think he may well do it. I'll be interested to see if Murray can step up this year as well …
